        MAJOR PROBLEMS LEADING TO STRESS THE WOMAN EXECUTIVE

“Girls work with men in the corner shop and in the factory, and all goes well. But I am different. Huge firm. I'm the only woman of executive rank. It's a tough job. A testing job. Anyone will tell you that. It's harder for me than for the men. By putting a lot of work into it I can hold my own on the business side. They respect me for this, but somehow they don't respect me in my status of woman. Simple things. One will hold the door open for me. Another will push in front of me. I don't think it is meant to be rude. Rather it is to emphasize that I should have no special privileges. I have to watch what I am doing all the time. All the time. So my brain is crowded with little worries, while they are free of this sort of thing. Some change their style of conversation when I am there. Others seem to make it rougher, as if to deliberately taunt me. My brain teems over the little things, and makes the big problems even more difficult.
'And there is a bitter pill. In spite of what I have just been saying, I like men. Like men's company. I am asked out. Quite a lot. But I am so tired from the worry of the work situation, I often make some excuse, although I would like to go.”
She has the major problem of the decision-making responsibility of a top executive. But added to this she has the associated problem of a woman working with men who are not yet fully at ease working with a woman. She could manage the major problem if she were free from the disturbing impulses to her brain from the associated problem.
Society is forever evolving. New ideas. New roles. New standards of behaviour. Those on the cutting edge of evolving society have more impulses coming into their brain than those working in traditional fields. I know something of this from my own experience in medicine.
Let this young woman keep down the level of her tension with simple meditation. She will find she can cope so much the better, both with the major problem and the secondary one that flows on from it. And less stress will come of the work situation in which she finds herself.
